Your correct. They dropped the _32 from the name (R32) because they went from a 3.2L V-6 to a 2.0L I-4. So when VW created the mk6, they decided that changing it from R32 to R20 would have a negative impact on sales and thus dropped the numbers from the name.

GM- you already build a car that is supposed to be both lightweight and RWD... oh and cheaper than the Corvette. ITS CALLED THE CAMARO!
