Toss another one in for Word of Mouth, although with a bit of a twist. Forums, or better still, car clubs or groups of like minded owners. Everyone will have their preference, but nothing beats joining the forum for your specific car or people with a like minded agenda (road racing, drag racing, autoX, etc.)
I have to disagree with #3 simply for the Saab 9-7x Aero. You can't beat Trailblazer SS hardware (LS2 and AWD) in luxury trim. Not to mention, the Saab front end was easily the best looking of all the variations (Trailblazer, Envoy, 9-7x, Bavada, Rainier).
