This isn't Kotaku's "decision" this is Gawker HQ's decision, Gawkermedia is finally making a call on it. They tweeted earlier this morning that they were planning on blocking images across all Gawker sites soon.

It was because of Jezebel's post and subsequent .gif bombs on other Gawker Inc. sites that image uploading privileges are being temporarily suspended. Kotaku isn't doing this as a pre-emptive measure, this is a reactionary one.
It's only because they spoke out that something is actually happening.
