The funny thing is, that's actually why Siamese have those markings. The 'switch' that controls their pigmentation is temperature sensitive. Siamese kittens are born white and develop that darker coloration on their (cooler) extremities, while the warmest parts of their body stay paler. It's very neat.

Brian Cox is wonderful. I enjoyed watching his recent series, Science Britannica (which just concluded in the UK).
I love Brian Cox's sort of non-plussed narration for his science shows. There's something quaintly british about having these huge scientific ideas being doled out by an unassuming Mancunian.
