Well Dale at the time The Hobbit is set is a long-abandoned town, destroyed by Smaug when he first arrived at the Lonely Mountain. These shots show Dale being destroyed so will probably be flashback scenes when someone is telling the story of what happened.

We could make this into a fast killing machine very easily :)
