This week I also discovered True Blood. How the fuck did I live this long without seeing it?? It’s so terrible. The dialogue, the plot, everything. But I can’t stop watching!

Whuddup jezzies. In an unbelievably stressful week (home life, work life, the sustained hellscape of our politics) I had one HUGE bright spot. A few weeks back, I posted about possibly finding the sister that my mom had given up for adoption 8 years before I was born. I found her on ancestry.com.
Maybe I should cut myself some slack since I was 12, but here’s my entry:
Well, I dropped this in the Annual Scary Stories Contest but this is probably a better place for it.
This is my mom’s story. One Mother’s Day my mom asked for an Elvis cardboard stand up. My dad and I hunted around for one and finally found one at the local Media Play(if anyone remembers those). We got the last one. My mom went to bed before my dad and me. She would get up before us too. So I set up Elvis with the…
I had her tagged as Serena Joy. She’s at the top of the hierarchy, so she thinks she’ll be exempt from the authoritarian patriarchy. It’s those other less educated and less religious women that have to be protected. Not her. She’ll write the opinions that limit her own freedoms in the same way that Serena Joy wrote…
A lot of hospitals offer photography in situations like this, so its not necessarily a glamourous photoshoot. I’ve known non-famous people who post these on their social media accounts to essentially say, “they existed in this world. they will be remembered.” It wasn’t thirsty or fake for them to do it, and I think…
who gives a fuck how Chrissy chooses to deal with her grief, that’s up to her. if you have the option to hate on her pain or not hate on her pain, just choose not to hate on it.
Not the point, but the wording of “Women Doctors Make Less Than Male Doctors” sounds odd. It’s OK to use “female” in spots where you would use “male”. Yet, the three comments so far all use woman doctor / male doctor, so this seems to be a thing.
Deep breath. Losing a job is always a big gut punch and tests your sense of self, for sure, but please try not to internalize it. Many of us have certainly been there and I’m sure we can give you stories, if you’d like to hear them.
I wish I could come a give you a hug.
Continuing the theme of 2020 being a kick in the teeth, my dog Lori died this morning. It was one of those pet deaths that was both unexpected and entirely unsurprising. She was an old lady of 15: blind, one eyed (thanks to a corneal ulcer that wouldn’t heal when she was 13), partly deaf, arthritic, had cushing’s…
Black academic here (#blacademic): higher ed jobs and clout have been in diminishing supply for decades, and people will do or say almost anything to gain an advantage, real or imagined.
Lately I’ve had a few zoom calls with family (who are geographically very spread out), that have made me realize how different our experiences have been. Most of my family work from home, but I am an “essential worker” as a therapist at an inpatient rehab. I go to work every day, wear a mask, and deal with the other…
Thousands of Japanese-Americans forcibly sent to internment camps beg to differ. As do American Indians forced to leave their homes because white people wanted more land. Or asylum seekers caged for fleeing violence at home, including little babies. Yeah, being asked to stay at home except for essential trips doesn’t…
There was a dedicated article on it yesterday:
I’m willing to bet there is some gel insert action going on in there. At any rate— they BEAT THE FUCK outta high heels!
Great points! I think in most cases, a lack of diversity is because those in hiring positions simply don’t think about it. They hire people they’ve worked with before, people recommended by colleagues and friends, and you know that sneaky nepotism that pops up every now and again. That leads to exclusion. They look…
In fairness, cold and unsweetened is by far the best way to consume tea.
