Woof.*

Well, boy, it was nice knowing you.

Hard not to read it that way.

Trying to get through Hearts of Stone before Fallout 4. I’ve already warned the wife that if there are any to-dos for this month, I need them this week.

I guess that “Yeah, but the starship Enterprise was built by professionals” would be an acceptable rejoinder.

Under that theory, there never needs to be a speaker brought to any campus. Anyone published, or interviewed by any media, has their ideas available for engagement at any time.

Which of those wonderfully alliterative issues would you ascribe to Germaine Greer? Do all her ideas fit that label? Should she be excluded based on a percentage of bad ideas, or is one bad idea enough to warrant dismissal?

Two examples of intellectually isolated systems (self selection) where bad ideas propegate through insularity. Once those ideas escape those systems, they wither. See: MRA rigmarole.

I’d like to see universities avoid becoming intellectually isolated systems.

I’m not sure how you’d go about crafting a better argument by refusing to hear opposing arguments that happen to be dominating.

All opinions and viewpoints aren’t equally valid, which is why you let them be expressed and the good ideas win out. Basic memetics. Basic scholarship, really. Back when I went to school (late 80s, early 90s) we would periodically have people much like the WBC come and speak on campus. I certainly didn’t invite them.

But isn’t that what institutions of higher learning are more or less for?

You can stop speech from happening, or you can meet speech with more speech. Have we really come to a point where university students are so dogmatic that any perceived heresy must be silenced, lest... something really bad?

Wow, you certainly nailed the crux of the issue here. Clearly, the problem is with young females.

Comedians aren’t allowed to just be funny any more? Carlin’s social commentary was frequently A+ #1, but I don’t remember so much stewing over what he didn’t say or any kind of comment about his clothes or hair.

There are no Confederate heroes — there are only varying degrees of traitor.

At that price, absolutely and without hesitation. Just keep a phillips-head screwdriver around. It’s not like the handles fall off, but it’s annoying that they come loose about once a month.

That T-fal set is a good deal for a starter set — and they are durably non-stick — but those handles are constantly needing to be tightened and the pans do not heat evenly. After preheating for several minutes on medium-high heat, I was registering a 75+ degree difference from one side of the saute pan to the other

I catered a very minor film shoot once and one of the things I made was sandwiches of uncured ham, dark cherry preserves and triple-cream brie on demi baguettes. That’s pretty darn close to the flavor profile of your son’s sandwich.

These were all amusing in their own way until the last one. Way to both be a miserable excuse for a human while missing the whole point of your own religion. Feeding the hungry and healing the sick were active things that Jesus did. I’m pretty sure that a completely passive — and simultaneously ostentatious — public
