The Eagle was the first thing I thought of when I read the story.

First of all, the company didn't repeatedly fail because of the work of the Baker's Union. Second, the executives had no problem padding their own pockets while demanding that everyone else sacrifice for the company. It's funny, while reading some of those old books to my daughter, to have to explain what isn't right any more. It's not the fault of the authors (e.g., there aren't nine planets in the solar system) — I just wish there were a slick way to update the analog world.
I was shocked that it wasn't at the top of the list. Talk about a comeback.
Holy crap, I laughed so hard at that and all the kids in the theater must have thought I was nuts.
I've always thought of the Shadows and Vorlons in Freudian terms. The Shadows are id — they ask "what do you want?" because they recognize that base desires are powerful motivators. They are manipulators.

Oh, my mistake. Being butthurt by a month-old comment about console sales, attacking a strawman about attach rates in response to it — it certainly quacks like a fanboy.
A month old thread, fanboy? Anyway, reread what I wrote and try again. The point is not that the attach rate is significantly higher than the PS3 — the point is that, in being relatively high at all, repurchased Xboxes cannot be a significant factor in the overall sales of the consoles.
Major Nelson tweeted an open PR position at Xbox today. Coincidence?
Anyone looking for more of this kind of thing: Some of this is covered in Michio Kaku's "Physics of the Future" — it's a pretty good read.
I suppose I could give it another try. I found that wiping out wave after wave of Union soldiers was leaving a bad taste in my mouth. Like I was fighting for the Nazis in WW2 kinda bad taste in my mouth.
Hell, I got a smile on my face just reading your description of shooting out of the launch tube and into a sea of Basestars and missiles.
