Hah! I was wondering if those weren't auto-transmission housings! That gives us some feeling of scale. So those puppets weren't small, were they?!

What is really unbearably bad about this is the story-telling. I mean, this is originally meant for children, right? And it's the mid-sixties and people are starting to have a very good idea that maybe coming up with nuclear weapons wasn't humanity's finest hour. And yet the best the hero and his side-kick can come up

"...our bellybuttons still feature a lot of familiar faces."

Depends on the 16S rRNA you're packing. If it's from the wrong strains you could get arrested for smuggling WMDs when going through airport security.

Always wanted to go to one of these but it's also my birthday sooo...celebrate with friends in Palo Alto or meet io9 in San Francisco...decisions, decisions...is there maybe one more of these coming up in SF later this year? How about one every three months or so?!!

I greatly enjoyed the book, definitely the best one I've read this year so far, looking forward to the next two volumes.

Still in prison but in a new scenario called 'adventures on Mars': ouch, that would suck. I didn't think of that but I can see it as a possibility now - but I really hope that's not it, that would be so incredibly lame.

I ripped through this in just 2-3 days even though those happened to be days on which I was under several deadlines and shouldn't have spent any time on reading SF. But that's how much I enjoyed reading it. I liked the universe that is described, the atmosphere, the language, the use of words, clever little insights

Whippin' out the Magnum harpoon (the most powerful hand-thrown harpoon in the world) when they finally corner it:

Also, we'll be making tons of it once we figure out fusion

Alflololian Disintegrators, I believe?

*laughs out loud and then un-hearts Dr Emilio Lizardo just so that he can heart him again*

... or, wait a minute ... OMG, maybe this is what they found !?!

Kondratyuk Crater Witch Project

Were the bites moon-, star- and santa claus-shaped?

The seats look even more uncomfortable than today's. How about throwing in a headrest there, Airbus-from-the-future ?!?

It's also really good in dealing with acne, based on centuries worth of testing by German teenagers (not kidding)

It's been a while since I took thermodynamics, but couldn't one also argue that entropy may as well increase during mixing, it's just that you then expend energy (by turning the crank the other way, thus re-introducing order into the cell) to reduce it again - within the system, that is, while increasing it some more

There's also an app for that

They have only two research teams at Fermilab? How does that work, they each occupy one of the halves of that building, with separate parking lots and entrances? And then they meet in the neutral space between the two halves, under the large glass surface, and poo-poo each other's work?! Fermi-Dome: two theories
