This. WWI was a tragedy - nobody wanted that outcome to happen. Not even close. It was supposed to be as small and brief a conflict as the Franco-Prussian War, over in a few months with minimal casualties, like every other European war after the Napoleonic Wars ended.

I'm from the U.S.A. and we don't generally refer to an American continent (North and South America, never just America). But I've heard this is different in other parts of the world, actually.

I agree re: the pacing and weaponry problems, although I think this can be solved easily enough with a little creative blurring. I imagine it's a lot harder and takes longer to reload a modern weapon than the CoD equivalent of that weapon. They elide over the boring stuff. You can do that just as well for WWI. You can

Yes, but none of those other countries have America in the name. It's a shorthand that's been common for at least a hundred years. Sure, maybe it's not ideal. But I don't see why it's a big deal still. It doesn't imply that the USA is better or anything. It implies that USA is short for United States of America.

I think it would have to end with an allusion to the rise of fascism and world communism. Not a happy "we beat 'em" ending but the chilling "we beat them, but look who's taking their place" style ending.

If they can sanitize the Holocaust out of World War II, they can cut trench rot out of World War I.

I actually thought those things *were* called foam fingers. Are they not?

Oh, there's totally space there. But NYC subways can be really gross.

underseat room? On the NYC subway?

Also Skyler isn't even attracted to him!

The best selling game thus far / yet / if you want to be a little dramatic, I think even 'ever' is OK.. but pushing it. Or rephrase to 'the top selling game up until 2008' or somesuch.

Fair. I cut the cord on that, so I don't see the ads... wasn't sure if they were saturating the airways or not.

GTA IV was not the best selling game of all time. There can only be one best-selling game of all time. It's not a position you can be displaced from. It's *ALL* time, not all time thus far. So you can't be "the best selling game of all time at the time."

Are they advertising? All I have seen are occasional stickers and their online marketing / trailers. I haven't seen any large-scale marketing in New York, which actually really surprises me... have there been TV ads or billboards or anything?

Elephants weigh 9.4 pounds now?

If it is the same engine as those games, it would definitely have been amortized across several years and development cycles, meaning it wouldn't be a single line item in the budget ($50m - Grand Theft Stealing Engine) in the first year it was created. It would be spread across the budgets for several years and

This is true, but to nitpick: they don't get fired. They don't even get laid off. It's a contract job, and the contract concludes.

*goes to watch the Sword in the Stone, stops reading comments about Ouya and journalistic integrity that have no effect on daily life*

It also tells the best story of any 4X strategy game ever and is one of the best, if not the best, exploration of the singularity in fiction...

I agree that the original is great, but the Civ IV remake isn't too shabby either. It captures the same spirit and is a total blast... it's also somewhat more streamlined than the original. Not too much, since it's pretty darn close to a straight port, but enough to make it feel nicer.
