I grew up in MI and now live in Oakland CA. While growing up it was normal for everyone to have their main whip + a winter beater. When I first moved out to CA in 2005 I tried to buy a 1980 Honda civic. (the old square body) And I was floored when the guy said he was asking 5K for this old beater.

I have spent a few weeks up in Ketchikan and was amazed by the amount of vehicles up there. Considering they all had to Ferried in at one time or another. Its great little city that mainly relies on the foot traffic from cruise ships.
