Lucasarts did it decades ago already. First Star Wars on VHS, then Star Wars on VHS with stereo sound, then Star Wars on VHS, with stereo sound and widescreen.

They don’t mean it the first movie to be re-released with changes. They mean it’s the first to get a “patch” directly after release. Directors cuts and updated re-releases aren’t the same thing. This isn't an alternate version, it's the same version with a few hot fixes.
