That sounds correct, however an engine is built to run under load. Pistons and bearings have load wear surfaces that are meant to take load specific forces. Not free rev. That's why many engines will no allow you to rev to the limiter when unloaded in neutral or park (GM for instance) but they will when loaded.

I've always thought that the Ford Bronco concept was awesome.
