Awesome. They had 4 in a row to follow a few years later. None of these include my favorite. #1 1968.

Fantastic.
Finally settled on one to post. Definitely not the greatest recording, probably not their greatest song. The 1097s color videos of them are just fantastic.
A song from our friends up north, subtitled for those down south.
Thanks for your posts. They sent me down the rabbit-hole that is the youtube suggestion column. I am having trouble settling on my favorite Grass Roots song. Until I do, here are Randy and the Rainbows. A bit earlier (1963) and maybe a bridge from 50s-60s.
Your lady has a great ear.
Wasn't gonna post it because it just amounts to cheating. Here is Brownwood though. Oh, and Thanks Erg!
Sorry to double up on REK but here is Halletsville. I am not a one trick pony, I promise. Just hit the bottle early in anticipation of a 5AM flight.
Not sure which town this is about, but it must be some town right?
Fantastic idea. I am sorry I didn't get here earlier/could stay later to see what filters out. Also sorry Mr. Erg isn't here to bump you in to the real comment section, as he he is so kind to do with all the drivel I send out. Anyway, this is about a bay... but about a town too?
Only a few parts follow the Memorial day theme but this is one of my favorite songs. Not a wasted word, much less a wasted line.
Fantastic Pogues song. Reminded me of this one Steve Earle flew over to record with them.
Honestly during parts of the second song I felt like I was in a movie as the rule-breaking cop entering a house. That is meant as a compliment, hope it was taken as such.
There is a story on a live Dillards album where they explain that it was common place for there to be a bluegrass band at what would now be considered the farmers marked on Saturday mornings. I agree with you that there was probably no place to find a guy picking and singing except on his porch.
Another classic. You said you sit around and play? Just pickin and grinnin?
Yes. In one of their other videos they begin to undermine themselves by having her show up in a pink wig and boderline nurses outfit. The sound is good, they just need to focus a bit.
I always just assumed all the heavy hitters of their era were recorded during the 1950s when there was a "revival" of Americana music. I think Ashley even had his own show, that's where his stuff with Doc Watson comes from. A bunch of them, Ashley included were signed to labels.
Back to the holler. Just found out about this band, they look promising.
Speaking of makin shine.
