Indeed. We should time elections so that we're all ovulating at the same time, amirite?

On a cross-country trip, Pocatello was the only place we stopped where we faced some really over-the-top blatant racism. Never going through there again. Ever. I hear horrible things about northern Idaho and it's supply of neo-nazis, too. My neighbor told me "just never stay from the interstate there. Ever."
I've lived in Indiana, Illinois (Chicago area and central), Iowa, and Michigan and have visited Wisconsin and Minnesota, yet I have never heard of this place, either.
Yup. Never heard of O'Charley's, but there are Cracker Barrels punctuating the whole stretch of I80/90.
Either way is sucky. I honestly only think my grad-school friends really get it or understand that what I am working on is a) a long-term process b) a big risk and c) not vampire fan fiction.
I tend to get this:
It's kind of a running joke (albeit a sexist and tired one) that women plan their schedules around their soap opera viewing. When my MIL comes to the US, we buy her a TV package so she can watch it. My God, it is awful, awful stuff, but it's practically sacred time to millions of women.
Nowhere near as funny as the Old Spice guy, IMHO, but still kind of funny.
Someone please make a .gif from an Indian soap opera, because I can't find one. My top three choices: panning in on a raised eyebrow, dropping a teacup (and then panning in on it), or an eerie sas/bahoo staredown that lasts across the commercial break.
Sadly, I don't coordinate enough of my clothing to my food. This may be because not enough food seems to come in plaid, let alone blue, but I am so up for that challenge.
So, like a bra that will fit my DD situation and a color-coordinated strawberry jello cake? Perhaps a pair of legging to perfectly complement this tater-tot casserole? Sounds like fun.
We need some kind of troll database for these people, seriously.
They really do seem to be decent people who care about each other and are doing their best. We watched a few episodes (youtube has some in 10 min chunks). I wouldn't want this to be broadcast abroad, though. I already get enough weird questions when I'm abroad, so I don't want somebody asking me if I eat sketti or…
I needed that Bowie so bad just now. Thanks.
Yup. Look at this person's other comments and you can clearly identify him/her as a troll.
I thought thy did a good job with the portrayal overall. The guy went through a brief phase of fantasizing about a future where they would raise a child while going to college, but in the end, he understood that this was her decision and it was the best decision for them. It seemed realistic, nuanced, and thoughtful.…
They've been at that for a LOOONG time. There are "women deserve better than abortion" stickers and t-shirts as well as other attempts to make it look like they give a damn about women. There is also the "such and such a number of women are killed by abortion every year." It's just distraction. At the end of the day,…
Here's the thing about "Can't we love them both?" and "Women Deserve Better than Abortion," and "abortion hurts women" (there is also the somewhat related "Abortion hurts men, too" pamphlet I remember from my childhood, but that is another story for another time) signs/t-shirts/bumper stickers: the idea of what women…
After I watched it this weekend, I actually wondered if Jez had covered it at (hint, hint, Jez). Anderson is great in it. This review talks about her as a feminist character.
As much as people drive around with "Adoption, not abortion" bumper stickers, very few of them would be supportive of a family member who was planning to give her baby for adoption. There have been a few inter-family adoptions in my family, which have worked out well for the children, but the stigma remains on the…
