It highlights the problem alright, but not the way you think. ;)

What's to stop the pro-feminism gamers from simply ignoring the male-laden testosterone fests in favor of playing (or making) games which appeal to their interests? I believe a big reason for the existence of Gamergate, and the perception that it's anti-women, is that they're pushing back against the notion that games

I got my ear pierced like Zoro; my obsession with One Piece and that character has entered new territory thanks to this article.

Well... that's disappointing.

Oh I definitely read it. But if you look closely, you'll notice he said something NEW in his reply to me, and it's that new bit which prompted me to recognize him.

This was a great response. Thanks for taking the time, again, to make it clear where you and your team stand on this issue. This, ultimately, is what I hope GG is truly about and if leads to greater transparency in the games press, I think something positive can be shared by all.

It's same as I understand feminists' responsibility with regards to handling their trolls: denounce it when it crops up, but then quickly ignore them and move on. The problem here, as has been pointed out when I bring this up, is that because GG is not a monolithic movement, it's difficult to actually be sure what

No one is arguing the opposite.

You seem to be operating under the pretense that gaming is a monolithic structure—that it's Games with a capital G. If developers and publishers want to make games which are taken seriously, which push the envelope, they should. There's nothing stopping them, actually, except maybe economic pressure: it seems the vast

Not everyone cares to see gaming elevated into cultural significance. There are many gamers (both pro and anti-GG) who would say that gaming is and should remain a hobby, free of the societal consequences which come with being recognized as "art."

This transcended emotions and feelings and clearly crossed the line into belligerence. I have no sympathy for him—only with those who might have been looking forward to playing the game.

What an idiot. He might as well say "good-bye" to whatever career he was hoping to have in games, let alone if he ever intended having friends.

Oh, I agree with you there, and I think the media and anti-GG crowd has capitalized nicely on just this aspect of the movement. Lacking a centralized voice has allowed GG to be marginalized by spin in the media narrative; they get to decide who GG is because GG doesn't have an identity besides what individuals claim.

I agree, more or less, but their responsibility, then, is about perception; they need to correct the perception that they're taking another hand-out after just launching their first title.

Then we can agree to disagree and I'd still enjoy playing a game alongside you. :)

I like that idea.

It can be argued that Gamergate has become more about battling media image because that's what the media has decided to shine their focus; they're apparently invested in portraying Gamergate as homogenous unit, marching lock-step into misogyny. But we know that's not the case, and I'd again ask for proof of these

Interesting.

Well, at least I've managed to uncover you as part of the problem.
