I hated my first post-grad job and after 3 years I started interviewing for others. I got word from a co-worker that my boss figured it out and was going to call me into his office on Monday for an explanation. Asked my dad what I should tell him about my job search.

Be extremely distrustful of any company that uses that old "we're a family" line. Companies that use emotional appeals like this are usually trying to hide something, like shaky finances or a fuzzy business model.

It's all short term justifications for staying in a job like that. "What will my friends/family think?" "How will I pay rent?" "What if I can't find another job quick enough?"
