Actually, more and more studies are showing how chairs and their derivatives (couches, armchairs etc) are terribly, terribly bad for us.
If it wasn't convention to use furniture, I am sure more people would abandon these dangerous throwbacks.
So in a hypothetical, rational future, humans should stop sitting in chairs.
