That doesn’t make any sense.
That doesn’t make any sense.
I’m not dragging anyone down. I’m supportive of the general audience. I don’t think ignorance should condemned so quickly, especially on such a harmless subject. The idea that so many people are chiming in to say something is obvious when it isn’t creates a hostile atmosphere where one can’t admit they don’t know…
I would never suggest that an audience or anyone in general is stupid. We can’t have a conversation if that’s your belief, especially when I’m addressing it outright.
u r a nerd
Doesn’t matter. Plenty of people see that it looks like a penis, but the average person doesn’t understand it’s supposed to be. By design. It’s a point of the film, not a simple design. Big difference.
I’m not being condescending. My whole point here is to defend the average film viewer and not call anyone who missed it stupid. Seems to me like every angry nerd here is chiming in because they’re worried people might not think they got it.
Doesn’t count. Everyone knows that. Most think it’s just a silly design.
I sound upset because that’s the voice you’re reading my comments in. Maybe you need me to be upset. I’m sort of over Kotaku’s discussions as a whole.
I’m not hostile. I’m just not so egotistic as to worry that people might think I didn’t pick up on the “obvious themes, Jesus, who didn’t get it?” A lot of people didn’t, and the games especially are just about shootin’ space bugs.
Yours is a comment I’ll point to when people say that everyone got it.
What is this bullshit? Nobody cares about any of this. We want a good alien shooter. Pseudo-intellectual analysis of the underlying Alien movie themes don’t mean jack shit when we’re talking about a god damn Doom mod. Take this crap back to film class
So you’re upset at film analysis? You think the people who love films and make them as their life’s work would be on your side?
Once someone points it out, sure. The average person wouldn’t jump into these things though.
I do. That we might disagree doesn’t mean anything.
You might care too much about the people trying to convey a message and the message itself. First and second wave feminism accomplished a lot, but not everything. We’ll need a fourth wave too at some point.
That’s a good impression of literally everyone chiming in to say that the themes were obvious as a way to jerk themselves off.
Sure they did. Someone saying “LOL PENIS MONSTER” doesn’t count, which would probably be everyone, but understanding the actual implications? No, few of the general population have. My mother and father saw it in theatres and never really caught on.
I much preferred the idea that they were just an alien species. The jockey or whatever was a great thing to add that added sensible mysteries to the film and let the imagination run wild. Then again, humans wanted to weaponize it, and that was the whole thing to begin with, so it’s not out of line.
I didn’t much care for it.
I’d be for that, but it wouldn’t need to be an Alien title. That would probably be for the best. The issue would be marketing.
