Yeah my Samsung TV does all this too but Im interested to see where the device progresses now that developers can dig into it.

If you already have a blu-ray player that can stream all that, then no, there aren't many advantages to using Chromecast, aside from being able to use your phone or tablet to control it. But now that developers can make apps that work with it, I imagine some new and innovative uses will start to pop up!

(A more-than-likely stupid question but...) My new blu-ray player* streams Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, etc., plus content from my computers. What is the (or is there an) advantage to getting or using Chromecast, either content or performance wise (I am assuming there must be, and that I am just missing something obvious

You're just an outlier far left on the distribution curve. HDMI is a minimum requirement now, not a drawback.

Img=always pronounced like image.

Yeah. Nowadays there's no reason for developed countries to host them. The hosts always lose money in the process, so the value in hosting the Olympics is that developing countries get to show off their newfound prowess, as China did, or embarrass the fuck out of themselves, as Russia has done.

Sure, I've been to places where you shit into a literal hole in the ground. But the Sochi resort infrastructure, including the plumbing, was just built from scratch, and it's supposed to be a world-class resort destination even after the Olympics end.

I agree with most of what you're saying, but the PC stuff was only ever a fig leaf to try and cover the corruption. Qatar didn't get the World Cup because of some sense of international justice on the part of FIFA, they purchased it fair and square.

You don't hand the Olympics to anyone. You sell them.

It's generally used in places with poor plumbing and/or extremely low flow toilets. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect better at the most expensive Winter Olympics in history.

Yes, but why would we want to???

Still no Unreal Tournament :(

Also, whole milk tastes better. Also#2, skim milk is white water.

That's my screenshot. :D I really can't say how glad I am someone noticed it and said something - I kind of did that as an easter egg to see if anyone would notice. Freaking love that movie - and frankly, just about everything Satoshi Kon ever laid hands on.

Noticed the Screenshot of VLC is playing the anime movie Paprika. Its a fantastic movie that was the inspiration for Inception. Also it has probably the best soundtrack I've ever heard. Highly recommend it.

I don't know about the rest but I certainly would have a hard time using IE and Winamp on my Linux machine.
Also.... IE... I'm not sure, but isn't Google Chrome the most used browser now days, cause if it is, then the "sheeple" don't even use IE either. d: (Before asking, I'm an avid Firefox fan.)

Just in time for io9 Friday GIF party ;-)

To bad it's probably better than the movie, by miles.
