You’re using your transmission to stay in place, not your engine. The transmissions park gear holds the car in park if you don’t use the parking brake/emergency brake.

You also have to be diligent about if you can even do a brake job yourself. some cars and trucks have calipers that cannot be compressed by a caliper compressor because it would destroy the caliper. Sometimes you have to take the car back to the dealership to get a brake jobs done. Which is bullshit.
