That’s possibly the nerdiest post I have ever read.

PRESS CHARGES. PLEASE!!!! PRESS CHARGES!

From the LAist story:

that is true, but 911 is not discussed anywhere near here.

the official statement is probably going to be “the camera’s were down for maintenance at the time of the incident”

I already find this even more suspicious than most of the other cop shootings in recent years. If the guy was truly trying to evade them, then that might include heading in their general direction. But that could so easily be perceived as attempted murder, it would be hard to prove. I mean, technically anyone driving

Glad you like it. We didn’t want to just describe the parts without showing them, and there’s a lot of things that can go wrong if you can’t see what you’re doing here.

Just a note that a lot of cars have ratcheting rear brake caliper pistons-owing to the mechanical parking brake mechanism that acts on them-and hence require a special tool to both push and rotate them back into place. Using a compressor without the ratchet function can damage the piston and caliper.

Your mechanic wasn’t born one, they went to school or learned on the job. You could change the brakes yourself but knowing you did the job correctly would be the concern.

Jesus, your not changing a timing belt here. Brakes are most certainly DIY and aren’t at all that hard to do and do right.

I’ve never done any maintenance myself, but I did my pads with a help of a friend. Super easy, and I’ve had no issues. Not that I would’ve necessarily gotten it done there, but the dealership wanted $375 per axle, so I saved $500 over going there, and got better brake pads than they would’ve given me.

My life (and passengers) is so much more secure when I work on my car than when Johnny-dropped-out-of-highschool down at the local Qwikee-lube does it. I used to work on my cars because I had to, now I work on them because that’s the only way I’ll feel good about safety critical features on my multi-ton steel death

Enjoy!

I would demand VW to exchange my Jetta for a Bentley Mulsanne, free of charge.

I’m calling it NP, because if it’s got 100K on it after the 3L conversion, either it’s got that LSD or it’s got a magically sturdy diff in general. Plus it looks to be in amazing condition for its age and mileage. I loved the Tropic Green/tan combo (I don’t love the hood but i could live with it).

Because the SVT 2.5Ls had an unfortunate tendency to starve themselves of oil in long fast corners (e.g. on-ramps) and once that block was shot, it was relatively easy and inexpensive to stick a 3.0L block underneath. The extra displacement also meant you got 20-40hp more when you were done, too.

I dunno. I had a Mystique with the regular 2.5 V6 and the 5-speed, and that car was actually a lot of fun to drive. I can imagine with more horses and torques and a tighter suspension it’d be an absolute riot.

And it has that sweet step in the rear bumper so you can load aunt Edna on the roof with ease!

Fried eggs ruined the 996.

I just went on a 500 mile round trip with 5 people and a weeks worth of vacation gear in my 03' 6.0 Excursion and got 21MPG driving mostly 75MPH. Verified by filling the tank against the mileage - this truck hauls my 9K trailer with ease and is actually very easy to drive and park. Excursions are a gem and everyone
