After more research... That could be. The only affected vehicle that got VW’s Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) urea system was the ‘12+ Passat 2.0 TDI - though I don’t see references as to how many they sold in the US.

No, 430,000 is the number of cars that “...can’t be fixed by a software-only solution.”
Hmmmm.... So 430,000 cars are somehow different than the rest of the 11-million-ish cars affected, and will need a urea system retrofit. What makes these cars different? Any of them in the US?
Wikipedia claims only three airworth L1011 examples in the world as of last year.
I’ve tried the upside-down-nozzle approach; doesn’t work on this car.
Interesting: So no waiting for the attendant if you drive a scandalous TDI...
Questions from someone who has never stopped at an NJ gas station:
What??
Too much in a twitchy swap-ends-when-the-boost-hits sort of way...
Really? I haven’t heard of any regulat state emissions programs that are forcing TDI’s off the road. What’s the rest of the story here?
While the Fiat X1/9 survived in the US market for some time (under the Bertone name in later years), it should have been more successful. It had even been designed to meet then-upcoming US safety regulations. Things could have been different in the US if the car had been scaled up in size by about 10-15%, with a more…
Yes, but he was uncertain enough about that to include concerns about “...a trailer and all that comes with it (storing it/towing an empty trailer).”
Sounds like he wants to avoid the “trailer” part of the equation, but I’ll argue that his other desires (fuel economy, city-friendly size, etc.) will lead him right back to a solution that involves a trailer.
Yeah, that’s what I remember. Your experience taught me to talk carefully - and document fully - when dropping my Contour off for the recall work.
My ‘95 GL V6 auto was originally a commuter for my wife that morphed into my daily driver - so I’m familiar with how “family needs” change what lives in the garage. It sat for a number of years when 3 child safety seats pushed us into a minivan - and I still had my ‘86 Mustang GT for driving to work. The Mustang made…
I suspect the Contour was a bit over 10 years old, given that they haven’t been in production since 2000. That said, my ‘95 Contour is my current daily driver (and even then probably wouldn’t rate much more than $75 at CarMax).
This isn’t a new idea...
As one who keeps paint brushes for many years: Invest is real paint brush cleaner.
They’re now up to five: four on the Sabreliner and one in the Cessna.
My ‘74 X1/9 had an OEM blower that kept air moving across the carb when it got hot. However, it also had insulation on the fuel line from the previous owner - the blower must not have been enough...
