On a stove, the entire heat source is located directly underneath the pot, maybe 1/2" away (electric or gas - same setup)

My father had ownership interest in a good handful of properties, largely in um... less-desireable parts of town. My brother and I were frequently in the maintenance and clean-out squad because he didn’t have to pay us more than lunch.

You have skills.
I’m a fan of one “community bag” for each hotel stop - roll in, unload ONE bag into your room, sleep, load up and carry ONE bag back to the car in the morning.

Agree strongly with most all of this (especially the “no screens in your lap!” bit as we do have a barfer).

I said that about my ‘83 Plymoth Horizon with the stereo speakers screwed into some poorly-done cutouts in the dash trim.

I think Motorola only patented discontinuing support for their products shortly after releasing them.

I was coming back east across I-80 in Wyoming during the usual white-out blizzard, and WYODOT closed 80 and routed everybody through Medicine Bow. I was following a semi pretty closely because I could see the lights on the back of the trailer and I figured he had bigger lights than my little Saturn and probably could

Does it actually matter? Given the current state of Amazon, it’s the same 5 random items offered under 6,000 different algorithmically-generated random Chinese company names (“Hooforyay”, “PRODCUNI”, “TreeBicyicleCan”...).

The new Mini kind of makes me sad for Apple. I’m looking at the back side of my 2009 Mini sitting on the shelf (had to make room on my desk for my work pile for the last year) and see no fewer than five USB ports, one firewire, and two display connecectors. ...plus user-upgradable RAM and storage and a DVD-RW slot up

Commentariat: Whaddya got for “larger format” masks? I never thought I had a huge face, but I’ve struggled this whole time to find a mask that gets under the chin and over the nose.

$400 should find you an Android Auto/Apple CarPlay deck in single- or double-DIN, and a decent backup camera. That’s a lot of creature comforts for the dollar (and decent safety upgrades, too, to my thinking).

I’m on board with the tire pressure gauge, rag, and the Rain-X washer fluid, but $190 jumper cables? Whoa, nelly!

The 128 was my family’s first computer as well. H2G2, Radar Rat Race, Carmen Sandiego... all staples of my childhood.

For about the same price as the 32" 4K monitor I have on my desk, I could pick up a 55-60" TV to hang on a wall.  That’s probably getting close to the same viewable angle....

I’ve been in software development for a long time - believe me, I know Windows has had its share of bad press, too.  I’ve got 3 Windows systems, a Mac Mini, three ChromeOS devices and a stack of *NIX virtual machines.  I have lived the pain.

All of my Apple-ecosystem friends have touted the benefits of Apple’s “walled garden” and complete control over HW and SW as a major benefit to stability and “It Just Works”. They’ve thumped that Bible since the gumdrop iMac days.

Yes.

Not only that, but my burrito joint of choice slips their foil-wrapped burritos into a just-slightly-larger-than-burrito-diameter plastic bag.

When, exactly, has the human race ever skipped on an excuse to throw a party?

Wow. That’s amazing.
