Cost of gear isn’t a good metric, here. I ride a Yamaha sport-tour bike; I own NOTHING with the tuning forks logo on it, yet I sit there in traffic with about $1200 in gear (helmet, boots, gloves, jacket) at any given time.

Those were such FUN motorcycles, partly because they felt like the motorcycle equivalent of slamming a small-block Chevy engine into a Mini. At idle they’d jump and dance and you’re sitting on it thinking “what the... why would somebody do this?” and then the light turns green and you roll on the power and everything…
