@Ailatan Hearts BabyJane: Too thin for most, but it also depends on bone structure. 169 cm is 5'6 1/2" and 50 kg is 110 lb according to the metric conversion site. Before my mom had me, she weighed around 100 lb at 5'5". She was really light for her height at the time (even for an Asian woman) but no one thought she

@PersonalBest: My profs didn't like me and only tolerated my research topic on middle class women and education in English speaking nations prior to suffrage.

An FYI you might want to consider: I was told that in China, if a family has one boy and one girl, they're considered "ideal" (of course, this is considered "ideal" in many other cultures)...at least that's what my mom told me - she said that my grandmother was asked to comb my cousin's hair before her wedding because

@Porcelina: A 24" waist is a size 2 on most size charts, actually.

The woman may be average in height, but her measurements are definitely slimmer than the so-called "average" woman. 36-28-38 is probably a size 8 or maybe a 10 at stores which don't vanity size. From what I've heard, the average woman's waist bigger than 28".

When you put a picture up on sites like Flickr, you can check whether you want to allow the pictures to be used by other people for other purposes. Maybe the photographer didn't change the attribute?

This doesn't necessarily mean anything. It could be a flashback. Time-wise, if we're looking at a 1964 opening, the kid should be around 18 months, no?

@lunanoire: Yes and no. It's about style. While there are quite a few things at Pacific Mall (pretty much the largest (or at least one of the largest) indoor, Asian/Chinese-focused malls in North America) fit me, many are just not my style. I'm not 16 years old anymore! I'm turing 30!

@media bottom feeder: I don't think things will fit every woman, even if they used measurements. Women's pants are probably going to be like jeans - waist and inseam - so you pretty much have to have "proportional" WHRs (at least for the brand) to purchase them. People with big butts or bigger bellies will be out of

Can we also talk about how some brands only carry petites in the most basic pieces (yes, I'm looking at you, J.Crew - you haven't had a decent petite selection beyond a few solid-coloured dresses and suits since 2005 or 2006)?

Loved the clip, but I feel old that I remember these things. I saw a birthday card at a store recently which referenced SBTB (it one of those "you know you're turning 30...", and had 80s/early 90s references like "if you had a crush on either Zack or Kelly" or "you can name all the NKOTB.")

There are some designers who focus on petites only (as I'm sure they're some who do plus-only). I would love for them to get just a little more press (outside of my blog, anyway)! I mentioned one of them, Allison Izu, earlier - she designs denim and they come in a 27" inseam (she also makes 31" - I wish she made a 29"

Basically, they're metro, but they just aren't interested in going to bed with you. Right?

@dearheart: How have the Japanese been treated?

@Tart of Darkness: I don't think people who call these women "girls" are crazy. Some women like to call themselves "girls," and they shouldn't be penalized for that.

I should note that there's a caregiver case going on in a Toronto suburb regarding a politician and her mom. The caregiver wasn't hired to take care of a child, but the mother, who was having some health issues.

That "We All Sing With the Same Voice" song gave me the creeps as a kid. Don't know why.

@RainbowBrite: I'm assuming they did physically cross, since every report has said that they "entered North Korea." However, North Korea might have a different definition of "entering."
