@Joyce Godsey: Actually, the increase in average height also has to do with aging baby boomers. Think about it. Height hasn't gone up as much as weight, and the waist-to-hip ratio is getting closer and closer to 1. Younger women tend to have curvier figures than older women....we need a good waist-to-hip ratio to show

@San Francisco via Alabama: Wait, if you're size 8, how are you a size 31 waist? I wear a 25 with Joe's (and often a 25 with Sevens) and range between 00 and size 2, depending on how badly a store vanity sizes.

@ShadowWylde: It still won't fit everyone as the sizes will be based on a certain shape. They're not going to make one dress for someone who is 36-28-36 another for someone who is 34-28-38, etc, etc, etc...It'll likely be 32-24-34; 33-25-35, 34-26-36, etc, etc...

Some stores include petites in their "extended sizes." Basically anything that isn't cut for someone around 5'6" and between 0 and 14 is "extended."

If they take away Barbie, then they should take away realistic looking toy guns (sorry, don't take away the super soaker or anyhting like that....they're cool), violent video games, etc, etc...

It's sad to be thinking about divorce at age 17. In this part of the world, Mariam would be thinking about her prom (and worrying about whether she's going to get into the university of her choice).

@tinpantithesis: But what about other little girls? Your mom wasn't the only person at the office with a daughter in Girl Scouts, was she? I've heard of competition within offices because several little girls were selling (and trying to out-sell each other)

One thing I want to ask: Girl Scouts and Girl Guides are EVERYWHERE. That's why the international umbrella is called WAGGGS - the WORLD ASSOCIATION OF GIRL GUIDES AND GIRL SCOUTS. Wouldn't immigrants have at least heard about them?

I also want to add that by the time I returned as a Junior Leader circa 1995, the (mostly) girls worked on badges together as a group, rather than individually. They also got rid of "flying up to Guides" and everyone advanced the same way. No more Golden Bar, Golden Ladder and Golden Hand (when I was there, only girls

@Jezebabe: Exactly! And it seems that "normal" sized people don't understand that. Alterations cost a lot for you, right? Because it's beyond basic hemming. It's often "complete reconstruction"! And don't get me started on "why don't you go to the kids' department?" comments. My waist may be a kids' 10 or 12, but my

@bratkitty: You can say the same thing about petite clothes. Outside of a few mall stores (like Banana and Ann Taylor) as well as a few unknown/lesser known designers, we petite women can only find denim. Sevens, Joes and one or two other brands actually make "petite" length jeans. Of course, there's less selection.

I think it's time for Jezebel to write a post about being too small (clothing sizes as well as shoes - I'm a small size 5, for example. That doesn't really exist for A LOT of brands.)

You know, at least (most of) you don't live in Hong Kong. My size 8 mother (I think she's a size 8....) was directed to the plus sized department a few years ago.

@encnyc: Ahhh, but the guy won the challenge. Third time in a row.

In the latest episode of Project Runway Canada, the challenge was to create a new outfit out of a divorcee's wedding gown (i.e. women of many different shapes and sizes). One of the designers complained that he was a "size zero designer..."

Other people have already mentioned this, but some of these anti-girly behaviour comments is exactly why I hated women's studies in university. The women who taught me, while extremely bright, always ripped apart my essays while they LOOOOOVED the girls (oh, sorry, women) who wrote about repression (I generally wrote

Kate Winslet said "Woo!"? I would have said "Wooohoooooo!!! I'm QUEEN OF THE WORLD...."

Isn't Dev Patel like, a few years younger than Frieda? Does that make her a cougar? When you're in 19 and 24ish, it's a big age dif.

@JerkoftheMonth: I don't see how Mulan was "exoticize"/"eroticized"/"sexualized" in any way, shape or form, considering that she was in drag for much of the movie. If they wanted to exoticize ANY Asian female character, then they would have done, the Moon Lady story.

@Eve Was Framed: How else were they supposed to portray Mulan? You can't make a girl who pretends to be a guy too...girly, can you?
