Sounds like a story about a girl from Quebec who wanted to take her husband's name. In Quebec, it's a very difficult process to change your last name (and it's usually reserved for kids who're adopted). It made the news in Canada last year.

I think English-speaking culture, especially in North America (and even more in the United States) has a problem with alcohol. Why else is the legal drinking age in the US 21, but younger in other countries?
I'm the only Asian kid I know who can't swim (skin too sensitive to chlorine...I had to get a special exempt in high school)
You're basically "dead" after 25 in Hong Kong too. Apparently their knock-off of SATC is about twenty-something girls! Yeah.
