Norman Lear is still alive and amazingly sharp. I heard an interview with him on NPR and was amazed that a 94-year-old could be so sharp and remember so many details from such a long, full and fascinating life. He’s on top of current events too . . .

I will have to give it a try while it’s still summer. I rarely drink white, otherwise.

My best friend can’t believe I didn’t like Bridesmaids at all. Kristin Wiig’s main character was completely selfish (a too unlikable character flaw for me) and I don’t care for toilet humor. I loved Ghostbusters though!

I remember reading, many years ago, that Zinfandel goes best with spicy foods. The reason given, I think, was that it is a late(r) harvest wine and, therefore, sweeter than the other reds. I love spicy Thai food (and red wine!) and tried pairing the two, which worked out well. You don’t mention Zinfandel though so

Rich used to do Pot Psychology here on Jezebel many moons ago. Was the best thing ever!

They paid cash too!

Being a politician is the only real job he’s ever had.

Seriously??? That’s hilarious!

They’re costing Americans a lot more . . .

NPR just ran a segment yesterday about how Walmart’s cost-cutting efforts have driven up crime at their stores across the country.

Shit, I’m out of the greys on some of the subblogs but NOT The Slot.

That can’t be it, since I was never out of the greys on Gawker’s main site . . . until now :(

Thank you for mentioning! I received multiple notifications, including one from the main Gawker site. Sadly, I was never un-greyed by Gawker while it was active.

I remember her show too! Completely forgot about it till now. Such greatness! I recently got rid of cable, installed an antenna and have been watching old Johnny Carson show episodes. They are so fucking fun.

That made me chortle!

I feel your pain :(

Depends on the volunteer work, I say. Community, grass-roots organizations are the way to go, in my opinion. I’ve volunteered for 12 years at a Saturday program for kids in foster care, though I’m also employed and have been my entire adult life. I know a lot of people who are out of work, for a variety of reasons,

People should consider volunteer work instead of being an unpaid intern, while they are unemployed and job hunting. Being of service to your community is life-changing, eye-opening, rewarding and educational. I’m willing to bet prospective employers would be impressed in an interview to find how you’ve been spending
