I don’t know where I read this (maybe the long article on Gawker about private prisons a while ago?) but I think putting prisoners who self-harm in solitary is fairly standard practice.
I haven’t read anything about this except this article, but it sounds like it went to the professionals (the Washtenaw prosecutor’s office) and the professionals declined to prosecute (“Criminal charges in the case were never filed”).

This stuff kind of weirds me out. Education has a big “develop socially with people who are more or less your social peers” component, and, at least based on this story... I guess I wonder where this kids gets to hang out with people his age.
