“What I will say about the Voyager, I think it’s great, but it seems to be very difficult to get hold of. It never seems to be available. I don’t know who uses it, but it never seems to be available. And also, why does it have to be grey?”

I kinda get what they were trying to achieve with the new paint job, but to me it looks like it belongs on a British Airways commercial flight; it does not look like a member of the Royal Family or Prime Minister would be on board.
This is the same government whose big plan for reopening the economy is recommend everyone goes to the pub. The reasoning being that if everyone is rat-arsed they wil not notice what a bunch of twits we have in charge.
That’s not true at all. Customers in America don’t want to special order a car and wait three months to get it. They Veruca Salt WANT IT NOW. They drive their dumpy trade in that overheats onto the lot where it immediately breaks down and they want to drive off the lot TODAY in a brand new automobile.
That’s the…
Not trying to take anything away from her at all but... Yeah shit happens but did you plan and design for the shit to happen? It sounds like the car she was driving did not. It essentially had no cage since it wasn’t a “car” at all just a Starfighter with the wings cut off and some wheels bolted on. I remember at the…
Do we even deserve the Arteon sedan? I’ve seen two on the road. Hyper bland Jettas and Passats though? Everywhere...Costco special Atlases? Oh yeah! Give us bland or big and cheap. Anything with character scares us.
From what I understand the USDM Passat is larger but built cheaper than the normal EUDM Passat. The Arteon is already a step up from the EUDM Passat, even when ignoring size. It should be much nicer than the USDM Passat.
Your argument about availability in the US market is fair. However, a wagon tends to have a longer but lower cargo area than a similar crossover. I personally consider length more useful than height.
But wagons are pretty and SUVs are ugly as fuck.
They sold those quirky, small vehicles and Americans stopped buying them. You can’t fault VWoA for responding to the inputs they receive.
I think what you're describing is called a minivan.
You say this like you’re surprised VW is willing to spend the money on testing the odd Atlas version. Why? Its obvious this wagon thing won’t sell in the states but weird CUV’s always sell.
But Americans have time and time again demonstrated with their purchases that they are just dumb fat hicks who want giant, cheap cars with lots of cupholders.
I agree 100%.
Alltrack owner here! This has probably been beaten to death, but VW made it sort of a pain in the ass to get a good wagon package in the US. Sportwagen 4mo only came in basic trim, Alltrack SEL in a manual is tough to come by (and maybe wasn’t available at first?). Every choice was a compromise from my perspective.…
You say no one bought the Alltrack, but I see them everywhere out here in CO.
Thanks for writing such an epic piece, its 110% Jalopnik and the kind of writing that keeps me wasting work time on this site!
