Out of interest, have you ever tried some of the high speed trains in Europe or Japan? It’s not a zero-sum game, and both will always have their place depending on population density and distances. It’s about having mix of both. So far US doesn’t have a real passengers first high speed train network.

Your train system is awesome! Granted UK is slightly behind many central European countries and Spain, France when it comes to high speed lines. Though I remember reading year ago that second high speed network is being build, and Eurostar will get new shiny high speed trains.
