So... they're asking for charity from ordinary, average people, in order to build toys for rich people who have too much money on their hands and no good ideas on how to spend it. This seems slightly silly, if not outright insulting. I'm imagining a millionaire in an expensive suit trying to panhandle in a subway

This is stupid. This is stupid on several different levels. First there's the jingoistic "the rest of the world is so primitive and ignorant compared to us" bit. Then there's the contradictory, but equally stupid "if other people are sexist then we should be sexist too just to stay on a level playing field"

Well, gee, you'd better let Russia and China choose your presidents for you, then, just to be on the safe side.

That sounds like nonsense, but it's pure onsense!

"He pointed to ancient beliefs that the sun orbited the earth - a belief widely accepted, but which was eventually challenged and disproven.

Get off mah lawn!

I personally would love to see more non-superhero-related space opera. I just can't get into superheroes as a genre... Not that there's anything wrong with them, and they're fun once in a while, but sometimes it feels like all of sci-fi and nerdy culture in general is gradually being assimilated into superhero stories.

On the other hand, it turned out that the theory of planetary formation that was first formulated in 1796 turned out to be, in many major respects, essentially correct. That's pretty awesome too. :)

That's very interesting. Please tell me more about maybe how about you.

Good enough for you, perhaps! But then again, you're most likely a non-sentient automaton that has simply been programmed to say that!

Unless, kind sir or madam, it is indeed perhaps you who are demonstrating a fondness for the being-wrong! O-ho-ho! Thrust and parry, I say.

No. Economics is not a basic life skill. I've spent several years studying economics, and I can confidently say that it is useless in daily life. Much of it is useless in non-daily life, as well, actually. Basic accounting skills would be much more useful for everyone as far as understanding money goes. Psychology and

Looks like an iTroop.

Hmm... Some far-lying asteroid *could* make a good heat-sink for bitcoin-farming rigs... Yes, I can see the merit in this... :P

Oh my goodness, are people never going to get over the end of the gold standard? It's been close to half a century! D:

You can say this about money in general. It has no intrinsic value. There are people out there who are willing to take bitcoins as payment for stuff; as long as that's true, what these farmers are doing is not inherently 'stupid.' You could argue the entire system is 'stupid,' but I don't think you can do that in a

You could ask the same question about many modern financial institutions and businesses. Much of the time, the numbers they shuffle around seem to have no more connection to reality than bitcoins do.

I'm sure the film will have great, flashy special effects, and all the goofiness and silliness will be moved into the plot and characterization, instead.

The mirror universe Enterprise opening titles were totally unexpected when I first saw that episode, and I thought the way they twisted the original version was just about the most fun thing Enterprise has ever done. Which, admittedly, isn't saying very much...

Haha, it amuses me to imagine some alien intelligence studying our species. First they'd be impressed that we managed to send a robotic probe to a comet. Then they'd read all our pareidolia-laden and irreverent comments here (not to mention the ESA scientists themselves describing the comet as 'crazy-bonkers'). "So...
