A related idea — not quite an artificial language, but interesting nonetheless — is Basic English. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basic_English
It makes perfect sense as an example of the English language's tendency to steal terms from other tongues, part of the secret of its success. :P
Of course, English has a big advantage that no lingua franca that came before could have — it is the language of globalization and the Internet. Given this, I think it may last a good long while yet... The main competitor I guess would be standard Chinese, but it has the disadvantages of being more difficult to learn…
I think that can safely be assumed to be the intended meaning...

Mind you, that's a whole separate issue — I guess the fact is that in the U.S. that does seem to be the accepted standard, so one would expect it to be used in this or any other similar…
"Being able to distinguish between [unreasoned denial of scientific evidence and legitimate, rational controversy and debate], she notes throughout her essay, is crucial if one is to engage with listeners and convey his or her message as compellingly, effectively, and purposefully as possible."
Are there any TV or web-series out there involving transhumanist themes in which it does not all go horribly wrong?
It's not so much that I don't see the potential for abuse, as much as it is that I don't see a way to avoid the potential for abuse. :P Might as well democratize the abuse, then! You don't want all the abusing hoarded by a small group of already-powerful people, do you now?
This is actually why I like things like Google Glass and other potential future wear-able recording devices. The technology to record and track everyone's public movements already exists, and it is, and will be used by governments — there is no real way to prevent that at all, especially since not everyone really…
Welp, the free world is doomed.
