Cancel culture is not actually a thing. Woody Allen still makes movies. Michael Jackson’s tour would have made a bajillion dollars had he lived to perform it. Louis CK is already doing standup again. Trump is still President.

I think there is a very, very, long way between “find a place on a map” and the very specific political positions that this guy is talking about, and the idea that those things are systematically taught in American schools, or talked about in American homes on anything like a broad scale, is ludicrous.
It’s straight out every anti-intellectual American conservative’s playbook - if every member of the population doesn’t emerge from the educational system believing every little detail of every national myth we regard as important, it must be that all the teachers have schemed to collectively corrupt all the children’s…
so many Americans are taught from a young age that Taiwan is its own country, that Hong Kong, Macau and Tibet should split off
If he learned anything during his time in America, it’s that being both a coward and a douchebag usually gets you promoted.
Well, apparently now you’re going to have the “entire population” scorning you, too. Welcome to the club. It’s terrible in here.
Yes...be very careful of what you say about “black people, minorities, women etc.” in our country.
And none of what that clown says is remotely true. And again...for those in the back. Freedom of speech is freedom from government intervention and prosecution for protected speech (and not all speech is protected). Getting fired for exercising speech does not fall under any auspices of the First Amendment. This shit…
“Although some people like to brag about America’s freedom of speech, there’s a lot of topics that are actually quite tightly censored – if you say one thing that goes against the politically correct line, you will immediately lose your job and be scorned by the entire population.”
I know this will seem politically incorrect and I will face the wrath of the entire US population — which, Hi Population! — but as a matter of principle I have to say, Yuan Fang sounds like a dumb douchebag.

Remember when capitalism was going to democratize and liberalize China? Lulz.
It truly is all about the bottom line, and nothing else. Absolutely nothing else. It’s just the cynicism being displayed is so obvious and undressed. The league is not even trying to be subtle. It’s perhaps shocking because it’s so pure, but it’s not a break from known history.
Don’t forget Turkey is doing it’s best to make whatever team Enes Kanter is on not exist within their borders and the NBA doesn’t seem to mind about that either. And who gives a shit about Turkey! So it’s no surprise that the NBA is kowtowing to China and anyone else.
What is China worth?
I think people conflate authoritarianism and socialism. They can be related, but not in the way most people use them when discussing US politics.
Or, maybe China’s economic system is more accurately labeled ‘state capitalism’ within an authoritarian political system.
But Harden and the rest of the NBA can’t even say they support the people of HK while also kissing Xi Jinping’s ass.
I was sleepy so maybe I mis-heard him this morning on SC, but James Harden seemed awfully accommodating to the Chinese government while speaking to reporters in Japan about this. It’s one thing for an idiot President to sell out Hong Kong (not to mention the Kurds, but they don’t buy a lot of NBA merch so let’s leave…
I’m sure the million ethnic Muslim Ugyhurs residing in the Xinjiang re-education camps will be happy to hear about the NBA’s commitment to Chinese fans as they assemble for their 5 a.m. re-education seminar. It will make their morning rice gruel taste so much sweeter.
