My first and frankly best job ever was at a dog and cat boarding kennel. We usually had about 35 dogs at any one time, and while everybody would get riled up and bark when someone new was coming in or out, nobody barked for more than a few minutes at a time.  You are right that this is unusual behavior bourne of

I don’t get your perspective at all. An entire political machine decended on her, and as stated elsewhere in the comments, everyone else who took part in the political circus moved on. She is the only one whose career and personal life were permanently damaged, although you could argue Hillary Clinton also paid though

I am your age and feel exactly the same.  Given my level of experience with men at the time,  I would have been easy pickings.

She was young, but more importantly she controlled not one iota of the public narrative back then and was publicly excoriated to a degree most of us can only imagine in our darkest nightmares. How can you claim she is in “white woman victim mode” when the only things we heard about her for 20 years were from what

I think your bf has a good point. Because some true crime stories are a guilty pleasure but I don’t want to contribute to the trend of using recent tragedies as entertainment, I limit myself to historical true crime. That way I figure that I limit the gross-factor and learn a little history while I’m at it.

For real?  That is awful!

I took a negotiations class a few years ago and learned that speaking your peace and then being silent literally forces the other person to respond. It’s conversational jiu jitsu and takes a ton of discipline to pull off. Good for you!

Lovely Jezzies—I dedicate this story to you.

Mmmmm.  King crab legs.

Ever hear the “Stealing Beauty” soundtrack? I had to find it used and upload it becuase I loved the collection of songs so much.

Have you ever read the J Peterman catalog? They are famous for creating watercolor images of the usually vintage-inspired clothing they sell, and creating romantic personas for the fictional romantic people that the clothing is inspired by. I feel like your description would make an incredible absurdist entry for

Barney’s is an awful place.  So they are being consistent.

Haunting.  As a stress-management tool I’ve begun taking the bus more often.  Sure it takes longer, but the sights and smells are a lot tamer.  Also, I hope those wings were not sauce-coated.

It’s definitely a lingering regret.

About 15 years ago I was on the subway and saw a random distant acquaintance from college. The subway was packed and since we didn’t know each other at all well, I didn’t bother trying to say hi. She had seat and I was standing a little ways away. She took out a brown bag of take-out food, opened one of those little pa

I love your dad!

I agree, so easy! And the buses are great too. I’ve had the pleasure of going regularly to London for work for the last 4 or 5 years, and it’s a pleasure every time.  If you’re a Jane Austen fan, I also recommend a day trip to Bath.

Thanks—me too! I’ve always had New Yorkers go out of their way to help but for this incident I have a difficult to express level of gratitude.  I really really love this place.

Yup.  Last winter my mom fell down the subway stairs at 53rd and Lex.  Nice people helped her and called an ambulance but she had serious concussion and a head-wound that required staples.  Scary stuff.
