I might be a monster but it’s one of my favorite JRPG plot twists. Blew my mind as a *kid*, which I’m sure had something to do with it. But I still think it was a wild choice for an ongoing series!

Okay I’ve made it to the first slide and I’m crying!?
I am loving your short takes on lots of different games that have caught my eye, Sisi! Don’t know if the overall numbers back me up, but I’ve found I’m clicking on a ton of your articles. Keep up the good work!
Morning Music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, great article. I would love to find out more about how Adult Swim was formative to the (specifically) Black anime nerd experience.
I recommend a spoiler warning for this article! For those folks who want to hear about your dungeon run but didn’t realize they’d be seeing an underlined, major story spoiler for HW right at the start.
On the off chance nobody else has mentioned it and you haven’t seen it yet (because the settings menu is terrible), there’s a setting to turn down particle effects for people in your party! It will only increasingly keep you alive as you play through this game.
Oh I don’t know yet! I haven’t actually played; I’m just in the investigatory stage. It doesn’t sound like it takes a long time for the plot to get interesting because it’s largely made of lots of independent stories, and I doubt it reaches anywhere near the heights that people claim Shadowbringers reaches.
I’ve been making my way through all the Final Fantasies over the past couple years, starting 14 in December (just about to start Shadowbringers!), so I’m really loving your continual coverage, Ash.
So happy to have you and this series back this week :D I was terrified it had met an early end for the first couple weeks of January, but it sounds like y’all’s vacation breaks might be just a bit different.
I just beat Gravity Rush 2 over the weekend! The soundtrack was indeed fantastic, possibly the best thing about the game, and I couldn’t help thinking it’d make for a good, modern edition of Morning Music. Wasn’t Fahey a fan...?
Omg I’d never heard of Border Down despite owning some weird Dreamcast games (no shmups somehow), but these “Stage” OST tracks in particular are like upbeat sci-fi weather channel music; I love it!
After listening to “Space Jazz”, L Ron Hubbard’s soundtrack to his book Battlefield Earth, I don’t feel any closer to answering this question, though it was a wild ride. I want to say it’s the addition of electronic instruments to jazz, but that might just make jazz into Jazz Fusion.
I also love Space Jazz! My favorite example in a game has always been “Mission To The Empty Space”, which plays in the final dungeon of Star Ocean: Till the End of Time. Interdimensional prog jazz added a great, chaotic energy leading up to that final boss.
I LOVE this game! It’s essentially the gameplay and vibe I wanted for the art style of Battle Chef Brigade, and the animations are unreal. I had no idea there’s co-op either, so I appreciate this article and will use it to sell my Stardew-co-op-loving friends on Spiritfarer!
Totally agree! I think Trails in the Sky being kind of a new Grandia is an underused comparison.
I daily drove a 2013 base Evora for awhile and thought it was excellent. Threw some Blizzaks on it in the winter and it was perfect if the snow didn’t pile too high! Similar to a 911T I would think.
Can confirm, did clutch pearls upon sight of gauges close up.
I casually enjoyed the Gummi ships and am continuing to casually enjoy them! Mine is a bunch of cannons tied to wheels, butterfly wings, and a beetle horn! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
This is sweet and I probably never would’ve heard of it otherwise. Keep up the news that matters, Mike!
