Instead of MPG, let’s think about it in terms of gallons and cost used over distance.
Throwing some numbers into a calculator (assume $3 a gallon)
403.4 mi trip

With my ‘14 Passat at 60mph on cruise control, single driver, no wind and flat terrain from L.A. to S.F. on I-5, I am getting 53-55 mpg. I am sometimes (depending on wind situation) almost able to make the trip forth and back on a single tank (425 miles each direction). Even with a 5mpg hit, it is still a very…
I beg to differ. This is far better news than expected.
To be honest - I’d take that. However, it was suggested by Herr Horn that the 2009-2014 non-SCR cars would be getting an SCR (aka AdBlue/DEF) system. I’d love for just the software to drop some MPGs - but adding hardware is not kosher.
As a Sportwagen TDI owner I’m just going to brush it off. I like my car the way it is now and I’d prefer not to do the recall, however if there is an incentive I may, depending on the offer/how much my performance is compromised. Truthfully, I’m otherwise so happy with the car that if they offered to buy it back I…
As a current Boom Operator, I can verify (second-hand) that it is indeed possible to tow a fighter with the boom. I’m not sure when it was introduced but we actually have a checklist procedure.
$800.000 DSG fluid changes ?? Where did you get yours done ?? I just paid $319.00 today at my 40,000 service. I love my TDI, but it will be interesting to see how all of this plays out ...
I worked at VW in early 2010 to late 2011 as a part time job while going through school. I was there when the failing fuel pumps issues started to roll in and it didn’t take out the turbos or glow plugs. Many of the issues were old people filling up with gas and driving around when engine was knocking(more than a…
I’ve had 1 previous GTI and another right now. DSG service cost me $250. You got royally screwed. My last GTI had 178k miles when I sold it. NEVER had a problem. My current GTI has 88k miles and running strong.
I have 178k on my DPF...
Hey Aaron, classy move on deleting my post. I’d rather you confront me than use your editing power against me. I know I’m that stick in the mud, but seriously, you’re like that guy who asks if everyone wants Pizza at a lactose intolerance meeting, and then goes ahead and orders it anyways when everyone starts moaning.
D…
As a stupid 17 year old, I agree with you. You never really know when something bad will happen until you flip over 2+times in the middle of a busy intersection because you were distracted. I was stupid, I often liberally went over speed limits, and I am pretty sure my fate was heading for an accident. Don’t be…
huh?!
Yes, I suggested this to someone once. “Of course there’s fuel” he said. There wasn’t.
#1 Am I missing something? I didn’t see any crash
But utilitarian is good right? I’m assuming it will haul around American kids, so it needs to carry a few tons of payload, and the interior needs to be able to handle spilled Coca-Cola and cheeseburger grease.
First off: APPLAUSE. Loved this, Sarah.
While Mother Jones certainly has the right to get out from under their image as the resting place of old potatoes on…
