The only big peripheral is the DPF, which if it functions correctly, doesn't need to be replaced for over 150k miles. There's no urea injection or anything else. You put fuel in the tank, and you drive, you change the oil every 10k, fuel filter every 20k, and you keep driving it.

There are DSG tunes that raise that limit as well as lots of other fun things. Like getting rid of the auto up shift, displaying current gear in any drive mode, increasing the rev limit to actually 5k, etc.

Bought my TDI brand new (3m on the odo) in 2010. It's about to turn 90k miles and hasn't given me one problem, aside from a few flat tires.

I average 40 in my golf TDI so it will be a while before I switch to anything different. I'm sure in another 10 years the rest of the car market will be up there, but until then, i'm stuck in the golf. Which isn't really that bad, it's a great little car.

I would love to drive a volvo, I just can't afford to. I've said it a bunch but I want my next car to be the current gen v60 because it's sexy as hell and has tons of room. if you're really looking at the numbers though, the only thing you get for that price bump is 4 rings and leather seats. I had the same thought when I was building my tdi, and realized it would be silly to go for the audi because you don't get much more for the money.

I'd like to suggest that in addition to vent windows in the front, any 2 door hatch/coup with a window between the B\C pillar, have a pop out hinge on the back of it so you can crack them open. Helps airflow in a 2 door when the windows are down, quiets buffeting, is badass.

Anti-lag and Launch control are two completely different things.

Anti-lag takes place off throttle to maintain spool, it does not happen on launch, or at any other time. It's strictly dependent on TPS and KPA and probably on the fancy cars some sort of motion vectoring.
