I wonder what a CFT will do to heat dissipation. This has been a problem with these aircraft before.

The shaft went beneath the cannon, driving a reduction gear connected to the spinner. The cannon barrel went through the middle of the spinner.

The engine for the P-39/P-400/P-63 is behind the pilot, the cannon is in front of the pilot.

If you took the collar and antennae off of it, would it look like what the fisherman brought up?

In the water? all the connectors would be rusted out. But anything could have happened to it when they opened it. It does not look like they were very gentle about it. Hell, it could be a dusting of something to protect against moisture.

What do you base that on? Satellites can’t tap underwater cables or see very far beneath the surface.

It also could be very old. Those look like 80s era electronics (capacitors) and power connectors.

Not saying it is a sonobouy, just that it would be the right size (and thus be the same size as a sonobouy dispenser. That size is a standard for class of gear.
