@CraigSu: Even before the leadfoot drylabbing, it was trivial to get 1 or 2 mpg better than EPA fuel economy in pretty much any car.

That is so totally awesome. Those kids will all have the best "where were you?" story of anyone they know (well, except the people who were also on the boat).
I was in far western Tokyo, about 8 miles west of Kokubunji, and it had pretty much tapered off here. I mean some things were rattling around in the kitchen, and I saw this metal siding on the building across the street rippling as it shook. But I'd felt worse before in Alaska.
