Crossloop is great! However, it is not cross-platform. I use a mac now but my parents are still on PCs... I tried crossloops in parallels but couldn't get it to work through my proxy at work.

@vondur: Woah! That's one sexy case! Has exactly what I need. How much did it set you back?
@q335r49: I do not think that it is engineers, but physicists, that truly invents things.
The "scale" feature (very similar to Mac's expose) is an awesome way of switching to the correct window quickly. I find the feature of maximizing windows vertically or horizontally to be very useful on my widescreen. The screenshot plug-in is also fast and easy. I can name a few more...
Instead of leaving your server/computer on just in case you need to access it while away, enable the wake on lan function on your network card (usually done through the bios). This allows you to remotely power up your computer using your IP address and MAC address.
I think that instead of leaving your home server machine on all of the time, people should set up wake-on-lan. Good for the powerbill, good for the planet.
@tokyowars: I agree. Unless the drag and drop actually moved the tab as NineTailedFox suggested (instead of just duplicating it) then I will stick with copy & pasting the url.
Beryl has a function for portion screenshots and easily allows you to bind short-cut keys for it. However, I prefer DDM. I like the option of letting you choose the format and also with DDM the screenshot is added to your clipboard for easy pasting into another application. Beryl's screenshot is automatically saved as…
The shortcut doesn't work after you install Beryl though. :( I think Beryl must re-map all your shortcut keys or something.
@computerjoe, @computerjoe: I got beryl working on my 9600pro. A few extra steps but it works. Just follow the guide at http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Fe…
Now if only the developer of AWN isn't so busy with exams (that's what I heard from the forums) then he would have time allow the dock to be placed vertically. *sigh*
Speaking of recipe books, does anyone use recipe book software? What are some good ones? Having them on the computer with an iTunes like interface would make them easy to search and browse. It would also offer the advantage of allowing you to print another copy if the one used for cooking gets dirty or damaged.
How much resource does AWN & Affinity take up in Gnome/ubuntu? I heard AWN isn't a native, as in it doesn't use GTK, so you have load lots of other libraries just for it to work.
There are a few problems with alltray and beryl running together: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php…
@Barron: In thunderbird you can try unchecking the option "Allow messages to use other fonts" or increase the minimum font size (under preferences -> fonts & encoding).
I usually don't have enough tabs open to justify permanently dedicating such a wide vertical space for tab browsing. But since we are on the topic, I find that the support in Ubuntu/Gnome for having vertical panels/docks to be very poor. Maybe there's room for a lifehacker article evaluating "dock" programs for…
Sounds like a good tool and would have done just what I wanted. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I have switched to Ubuntu and from what I can tell I already have all the functions described plus more!
Poor Gina! Maybe you can get your revenge by removing Adam's legs and arms from the picture. :)

I found synergy to be very laggy when I was trying to use it across my laptop (54Mbps wireless) and my desktop (100Mbps) connected via. my router. Mind you, the network may have been slowed down by my flat mate's bittorrenting...
