Other outlets are reporting the woman’s full name is Tami Barker, and that she is an ESL instructor at a local community college. Someone’s in the wrong line of work.

They should be commended for being willing to fix the issue, but they should be chastised for shipping the product in the state they did. They should not have shipped the game with such dead-eyes.
Ever since the game came out, I’ve wanted to cosplay as Zarya, but not genderbent. It’d kinda be like drag, but accurate to the character. I just do not have the money for it. Got the muscles though.
No need to be salty, my trans friends don’t use it and thought you’d be interested.
The fact that you think this logic has any place in the world is beyond disgusting.
But because the whole LGBT thing is such a hot button topic right now...
Yes because why own up to your mistakes? We should all be assholes to people. If you make a mistake you own up to it, it’s as simple as that and demonstrates maturity and accountability.
Goddamnit why I did read the responses to that tweet?
Or, you know, be more knowledgeable about Trans culture before you include a Trans character in your story?
Just FYI, the trans community doesn’t typically use the asterisk any more. Trans* was short-lived and ultimately rejected for reasons that are too long to go into here. In the future, just “trans” is sufficient.
The “lesson” is that, when writing about life experiences or perspectives with which you have no experience, you consult those who do FIRST. Speaking from your position of privilege while interpreting how someone “would” act is probably a bad idea.
Easy solution would’ve been to never include that line. Like...
No transgender person would use their dead name unless it was a gender neutral name. Like Addison or Blake.
I’m just going to remind everyone to not reply to or ungrey trolls. Even if well-intentioned, all you’ll be doing is giving them exactly what they want, attention. Flag and dismiss them when you can. And if you see a troll replying to someone else’s thread, be sure to inform that commenter and remind them that they…
How is this a relevant question to anything?
I’m a cismale ally and I have to say that exchange did strike me as a bit odd. Good on them for apologizing.
Okay, so it seems like once again us trans individuals are left aside. I don’t see any mention of gender identity or expression which is very disheartening.
Oh, he’s been great the whole time this has gotten coverage. Every time some reporter has tried to say he “transformed the genre” or something like that, he’s pointed out that horror movies have been doing this since Night of the Living Dead. He’s well aware of those who have done this before him.
Peele even said this. He wanted Get Out to be about racial issues the way the Stepford Wives and Rosemary’s Baby was about women issues. (Especially the issue of control over their own bodies in the 60's/70's era.)
Jordan Peele says he has four more “social thrillers” planned for the next decade.
Horror movies have been tackling social issues for over 50 years. I’m glad mainstream media is finally noticing. Maybe now horror will get some attention from the Academy, too.
