The Gang Goes to the Hammer Museum
It isn’t just consensual sex workers who are opposed to this bill. Anti-trafficking groups and trafficking survivors themselves are also opposed to it. There are several good articles about that, and the bill in general, here:
My husband (who grew up in northern WV, outer rim of Pittsburgh suburbs) once talked to Mr. Rogers on the phone and it’s one of the top moments of his life. He loomed large in the local lore. Everyone knew if you went trick-or-treating at Mr. Rogers’s house, you’d get a full-sized candy bar.
In 2013, I worked at Mashable and we did a video with Sesame Workshop and Grumpy Cat. It was an Oscar/Grumpy mashup. Carroll Spinney came into the office to do the video, and it was a closed set shot early in the morning. The director of video knew I was a huge Sesame Street fan and that meeting Spinney would mean the…
My dad was his paperboy for awhile when he was a kid. And yes, I’m so glad that apparently he was as great in real life as he seems. He learned my dad’s birthday (which, to be honest, even I forget all the time) and would tip extra on his birthdays and the holidays, as well as make friendly conversation when they ran…
HOW DARE YOU
And if the trailer didn’t get you bawling...
counterpoint: do not do this, you weaken the entire industry by creating the precedent that the fruits of your labor should come for free. if someone is profiting off your work, you should not do it without compensation.
Ya, see, my wife is an editor/journalist with a Master’s degree, and because each publication she works for eventually gets bought and shut down, or just goes under, she freelances a lot. It’s harder and harder for her to find gigs because 1) other people write for free (but worse), and 2) publications expect people…
I think at least in this case, a large part of it comes down to the fact that she was his teacher/therapist/what-have-you, and therefore in a position of power over him. While it’s never a perfect metaphor to reimagine a situation like this with a physical disability, I would still believe it unethical for a physical…
“how the hell an ethics professor misses the red lights”
From what I’ve heard, “facilitated communication” is bullshit anyway.
Way too many 12th generation Irish out there getting super nationalistic on St. Patrick’s day. I already have depression, translucent skin, a short temper, and alcohol issues; I don’t need a day to wallow in all that shit.
Congrats Lil’ Ru Ru! You deserve it. About 10 or so years ago, I was in the process of reading his memoir. One day I was at Trader Joe’s in Toluca Lake waiting in line. I noticed he was behind me and I turned around and put my arms out and said LITTLE RU RU! He mentioned his nickname in the book, hence me calling him…
Well, once the millennials move out of their parents’ basement, they can make decisions on “ethical” snack food. Until then, though, shut up and eat your damned Funyuns!
I was coming down here to post something very similar.
It’s called fruit, you spoiled little shits.
This is great, but what concerns me is how much of what millennials eat is packaged in plastic. If you’re buying 100 calorie packs of organic seed snacks, you still have the problem of wasteful packaging. I hope we see progress in that area soon too.
