If this is indeed a '76, it's most likely (if it retains it's original engine) powered by either the ubiquitous (and bulletproof) Chevy 250 straight 6, or an equally bulletproof 145hp 350 V8.

I'm going with the Chevrolet 3rd gen six, notably the 250. Found it's way into a lot of GM vehicles, (as well as the 1969-1979 Checker Marathon). Was in use in South America as late as 1999. Another super-reliable 6.
