The OptOutPrescreen website is a little misleading since there is red text next to where it asks for your SSN, but your SSN is not required. The SSN is just an added piece of information to use in blocking the offers.

I think the free-to-play games market is filled mostly with people who didn't normally play games before that. They've become hooked because they were able to try it out without an initially high price tag attached. This is pretty awesome but it seems like it doesn't account for player's salaries who are being paid by another team. For example, it has the Yankees on the hook for $18 million for Alfonso Soriano and $21 million for Vernon Wells for 2014, but the Cubs and Angels are eating a huge chunk of that for each player.
