Your first post summed it all up fine. If he can't come to the conclusion on his own then do yourself a favor and don't waste your time. He's obviously reading/seeing what he wants, and that won't change by you bringing logic and reason in to the argument.

I recently had all my characters die on a single mission. On Classic difficulty with Iron Man Mode turned on, so I couldn't reload. At the time they were (with nicknames in parenthesis):
