Yeah, I’ve often had the same thoughts.
Yeah, I’ve often had the same thoughts.
Is everyone just new to gaming? When a normal game is delayed, nobody cares. If a kickstarter backed game is delayed, suddenly it’s the end of the freaking world.
It’s true that mortality is not a failing of human nature. However, it is an arguably negative part of the human condition, much like disease or infirmity, which some would argue leads to other human failings. One facet of the transhumanist movement is to overcome the limitations of the human organism, hopefully to…
I’m familiar with the idea, and while I don’t think the distinction holds true absolutely, it is somewhat useful. There is plenty of transhumanism in cyberpunk though. For example, in the Altered Carbon books, humanity has conquered mortality, but honestly this doesn’t seem to have done us a lot of favors.
It’s true that it lacks grit, but that’s really more a setting thing. I’d say it nails the whole “technology changing the mores of everyday life in unexpected and transformative ways” thing. Most of sprawl trilogy was okay, but I’m sad Neuromancer didn’t grab you more. It’s my favorite book. :) I’ve read most of…
Hm, I do have access to those things.
Uh....did you read Idoru? A William Gibson novel about a pop star and idol who is just a computer program and hologram? You know, William Gibson, father of cyberpunk?
You realize she doesn’t write her own songs right? I guess whatever songwriters write for “her” will be sad to hear they have no talent or collective emotion.
Hey so am I, see you there.
I for one enjoy living on a planet filled with so many rad things. I have no interest in trying to interpret Hatsune Miku as part of a broader cultural context; the fact of the phenomenon itself is interesting and cool.
Going to see this in a couple of weeks. I’m not really a vocaloid fan, but something about the nature of this event appeals to the cyberpunk enthusiast in me. And the part of me that likes Idoru... and Japan... and anime... hm, maybe I am a fan...
It happened in 2001 and never really stopped. I kind of think it broke our culture.
To whom? You? Why would he or anyone else on Earth care?
I know less about cars than I do about astrophysics. That said, keep in mind an old programmer’s adage: garbage in, garbage out. There is no guarantee that a rotary engine would be as good as a piston engine even if you worked on it for 500 years. There is the possibility that the piston engine is just an inherently…
“...trademark rights can also be lost unintentionally. For example, in some countries, it is possible to lose rights in a mark by allowing third parties to use the mark without controlling how it is used.”
One of the problems with US Trademark law is that trademark holders are not allowed to selectively enforce their rights only when they choose — you use it, or you lose it.
Saying “Conor was legally obligated to do this” doesn’t actually interact with the statement “The UFC is being stupid here.” One doesn’t negate the other. The fact that Conor was obligated to do those promo events doesn’t mean the UFC isn’t throwing away a huge opportunity and endangering their long term prospects…
Hey no problem, Kinja takes a while to get used to.
That’s a pretty harsh reading. They’re right in that the world is changing rapidly to something it’s never been before. I think it’s appropriate to at least have the grace to give people a little time to adjust instead of pillorying them for not having already reached your conclusion. Or does compassion only flow one…
What I am saying is, they are doing it because of our rapidly changing culture, which is changing what is acceptable and not acceptable. In other words, I think you are seeing a distinction in their words that does not exist.
