I drive a 2018 i3 also (Melbourne Red) and yes, there’s some oddness with getting in and out of the i3 with the rear doors. Is it a perfect car? no. Is it a car for everyone? no. Do I like quirky cars that aren’t for everyone that keep me away from gas stations and save me money every week? YES.

Back seat passengers cant open the rear doors without the front door being opened first, also, the rear handle is difficult (but not impossible) to reach from the back. My 6/8 year olds let me know on a regular basis, especially if I forget to let them out. Its not a huge deal, but it happens.
