1. Say what you want about the movie but Christopher Reeve is still the best Superman:

Anyone who expects a high-achieving ambitious competitive person NOT to be something of an asshole or even a full asshole, is obviously not an adult who understands the world.

See, if the US really wanted to fight terrorism we should get rid of the 25 year rule and introduce Bring A Trailer to conflict zones. I’d happily do my part and outbid the Janjaweed for a Land Cruiser.

Ethanol in fuel is evil. It’s been a boon to the small engine repairmen of the world.

make it clear what you expect pickup/takeout customers to do when they arrive.  I ordered from a local place last weekend, and when I got there they had a posting on the door saying “for the safety of our staff and customers please wait in your car for your order.”  But nobody working there was coming outside, and

It is a shame that the impression most people have of Stockdale was formed by his VP debate with Al Gore and Dan Quayle, because he really was an impressive guy. His hearing had been so damaged during his imprisonment that he wasn’t suited to be a campaigner, and was there mostly because the Perot campaign was

Any lender who offers a cruise line credit at any interest rate is just looking to throw their money down the toilet.

The Indian shipbreakers are going to be busy for generations.

Why on earth would you say that?  Not all Boomers are a waste of space.  I am 67 and I hope that I still have something of value to contribute.

This sad news leaves me shaken and stirred. RIP Ms. Blackman.

Well, if it doesn’t drop 30% in a month, like just happened. You are good over a 30 year time horizon but maybe not over a 4. Not taking a car loan is a risk free return. I can only get 1.7% tops in an FDIC insured account these days, so 2.x% sounds pretty good.

If you can’t pay cash for the car you can’t afford it. Financing should be just convenience, not a way to stretch nonexistent income. You should be able to pay off the vehicle the next business day if need be. It is really sad that people are so dumb with money. Good for the repo man though.

I’ll guess their insurance companies is having them do this to lower liability...kind of like removing all the booze from The Colorado Lounge during the winter shutdown...

I think the real argument against such unruly behavior is the risk of an accident. Both selfishly, in that you absolutely do not want to be in the hospital right now, and unselfishly, in that both first responders and hospital personnel have more important things to be doing.

I miss Marshall Field's, too!

Have you seen the recent results from Bring a Trailer? They might be the only website that retains past sales data and it seems like people are buy and selling surprising enthusiasm, even as of this week https://bringatrailer.com/auctions/results/

It’s too early to tell but there’s a real possibility of inventory shortages later this year. A number of dealers I’ve spoken with in the last few weeks say they’re not being overly aggressive on discounting with availability in mind.

There’s even less about independent shops.  Who are going to be struggling worse than the stealerships and the auto giants.  What is going to be done about all the small shops, because the dealers and factory cannot cope with repairs and most won’t even touch older vehicles.  Anyone at Jalopnik got any word on this?

Well, if the sheriff doesn’t come for these bad boys, perhaps the mayor will naw give them no break.
